The "No Clubs" Club- Misc Bronze

Just like Stu's thread in the Silver Forum. The BA had some killer covers, so post your favorite non-"favorites".

Small typo in the title :)
"Honesty is my only excuse, try to rob me of it but it's no use." Metallica :rockout:

Why are some comic collectors so proud to have fake OCD? Is it cool to pretend to be mentally ill?

Thanks. It's the only BA Dr. Strange book I have. I bought it at a used book store in the early '90's when I was living in Houston.
I like the giant skull cover.

That's a nice Cap you have there. Bucky & Falcon in the background watching them duke it out.

Thanks! The colors are what really set it off for me. And color-wise, it's nicer in hand than in the scan.

Kane was a master with the reptilian creatures! Probably my favorite Lizard artist in the ASM title (#101-102  ).

+1

I've read many posts by users who say that ASM 100-102 was a silly story. I thought it was an awesome stupendous story. Especially compared to many 100th Anniversary story arcs.

You know it! I have a few from the late Silver Age that fit that theme, but GK's art really seemed to transform in the 70s.

Do you think he had some Romita guidance?

I wouldn't doubt it, they were quite a team.
GK was obviously a student of the human form in motion. His use of multi-angled views of the characters always seemed spot on in terms of anatomy. I will admit :peeking: it could get tedious when binge-reading, but when they came out monthly it was so easy to get lost in the story with all that action leaping off the page. The issues that followed, when they head off to The Savage Land, were a great adventure.
And his Gwen was sexy, too. Hard to say for me which artist I thought did a better job drawing her; GK or Ross Andru.

And to touch on Bill's comment on folks thinking the six-armed Spidey story being goofy :whatever: That absolutely captured my imagination. I'd daydream about all the cool shit I could do with six arms, and when it came to Spidey I daydreamed a lot thanks to the relatability of the character.

I dunno, he had a lot of inkers in the late 60s/1970s. JR SR, Tom Palmer, Dan Adkins, Frank Giacoia, Sid Greene, etc. You look at his Blackmark stuff and he inked that himself. Wasn't JR SR the art director at Marvel at the time? If so I'd say that JR SR definitely had some influence on Gil's work.
I think Gil was always evolving, and I do think shifting from DC to Marvel really helped. I can imagine Stan (or JR SR?) saying "go nuts!" while DC was more like "make it look more like the house style". His 80s stuff doesn't look like his 70s stuff doesn't look like his 60s stuff. And the work right before he died inked by John Buscema and Kevin Nowlan was great too. Rob Liefeld should've taken notes from Gil Kane!

+1 (I don't have time to hold down the "0" and "," keys long enough to to show how much I agree with this)
