Re: "Romitaman" Mike Burkey admits shilling his HA auctions

After a time Mike (Romitaman) posts up that he's talked to Heritage, talked to others and didn't realize what he was doing was wrong. Promises never to do it again. So we have that going for us now.... There was also a branch of the thread that spoke about possible lawsuits. Be a lot hurdles t...

Re: Proper pressing question

The book appears to be wavy and I might be seeing a stain on the bottom of the FC. CGC is harsh on stains. I suggest it would be wise to purchase the grading notes on this book. If it is wavy because of getting wet and has moisture stains, 8.0 may well be the best grade it would get from CGC

Re: Cleaning Comics

I looked at some of the Hero Restoration stuff & they really did a nice job removing some stains on other books that got graded after and did not get a resto grade. They removed what looked like ink stains, as though the book were in a box rubbing against other books without bags. Comic books r...

Re: Cleaning Comics

Dry cleaning only removes surface dirt. Foxing and stains penetrate the paper - and cannot be removed by dry cleaning. Removing stains would involve using solvents (liquids) and washing the stain out. Which would then result in the book being considered restored. Food is hit and miss. Sometimes a bi...

Re: OPG #45 Price Jumps

Micronauts was a hot title for several years and it's now 35+ years old. Also a popular kids toy. I'm sure some people are thinking there might be a movie someday. As for the Human Fly 1, there have been rumors of a possible movie for some time now. And I can see this one maybe happening, since it's...

I'd be hunting the guy from work down like deer. First 50 issues of Walking Dead? You could parlay those into some pre-code horror.

Re: The First Comic You Ever Bought

I've owned several different copies of the first comic I ever bought. I do not own the original. Superman Annual 7, Summer 1963. I would have been 9 years old! My current copy is raw in the VF range. Maybe someday I'll snag a near mint'ish copy First comic I ever read was a few months earlier. Space...

Re: My first CBCS submission......

The CBCS slab is preferable to any other grading company's for several reasons. The most important is that it is with any doubt the most tamper evident. You cannot remove that strip with the clips across the top without it being evident. I can pop CGC slabs half the time and PGX slabs nearly every t...

Re: More CGC greed - custom labels

I believe the custom label that would be popular would be a "personalized" label. One that included text the submitter proposed. I know I would slab something if I could get "Fuck CGC!" written on the label (Mad # 166 comes to mind) :thumbsup2: For instance, I've had a letter or...

Re: More CGC greed - custom labels

I believe the custom label that would be popular would be a "personalized" label. One that included text the submitter proposed. For instance, I've had a letter or two published in comic letter columns. I would be cool to have that noted on the label. Or say the first comic you ever read, ...

Re: ouch-cbcs screws up

Aren't you the connoisseur!?? The publisher's figured out from day 1 that a better cover made for better sales. I own lots of books just for the cover. But then, I enjoy stories that are entertaining crapola as well. Mind you, great covers AND great stories make for REALLY GREAT comics, but I'm ofte...

Re: CGC Turn Around Times slip still further out

The choice of using UPS is on the CGC form. I use FedEx all the time to get books shipped to me by CGC and CBCS. You can register for a free FedEx account - and both CGC and CBCS will return ship to you under your own FedEx account. The insurance thing needs to be kept in mind. By default, you will ...

Re: USPS- They so funny!

There has long been speculation as to what exact effect "fragile" has on package handling by all the common carriers, not just USPS. Your pictures would be an example for those that believe marking your package as fragile/handle with care or whatever just singles it out for abuse.

I haven't used it yet but have a couple of customers that have. They were happy with it. One person got a signature at a show but no CGC or CBCS reps were there. Another person bought a book already signed on eBay. Both got verified, both were happy.

Re: Publishing a Comic Book

Maybe someday. Too busy now. It's much easier to self publish now. And if I had the time I could afford it. I'd have to decide if I just wanted to do a one off book to be able to say I once produced a comic. Or if I would actually want to get half a dozen issues done and really try to launch a title.
